Bill Martin
General Manager
The inviting and friendly family atmosphere of Mako Mike's is not merely the result of a management style or business plan but the genteel nature and guest consciousness of hospitality veteran, Bill Martin. Bill has extensive experience in the hospitality industry managing hotels, hotels including dining and tavern services, and nightclubs in urban/big city locales. But the calming nature of the Outer Banks is Bill’s personal nature. Bill does not care only that guests enjoy a good meal - he wants dinner guests to enjoy a memorable dining experience from their first greeting at the door, amazement and wonder at the fun, colorful and aquatic/shark theme and décor, a satiating experience for the palate, and sincere appreciation from the staff for choosing to dine at Mako Mike's. Bill’s genuine southern hospitality is sun-kissed with the coastal hospitality and laid back personality of the Banks. This is reflected and repeated by the warm personalities of the staff – everyone is dedicated to creating a great dining experience and desire to return. You are only a guest once at Mako Mike's, you become a friend we like to see often.
Fred Virgil
Head Chef
When you dine at Mako Mike's, you get to savor Outer Banks heritage and flair. Fred is a beach veteran, a true ole salt. Fred’s passion for cooking is evident in his chef specials and the consistency of the preparation and taste of the extensive menu. For some culinary professionals cooking is an art. Fred does not merely enjoy cooking, he has fun. If he was not busy in the kitchen cooking and personally overseeing every meal, we’d have Fred at a cooking station in the middle of the restaurant. Not only would guests be entertained by the constant chat in which Fred would engage everyone within ear shot, but they would get caught up in the sheer joy and flair of Fred’s animated cooking antics. They say that you only see 10% of an iceberg, that the bulk of the mammoth ice structure is below the surface. That is the Mako Mike’s kitchen. The deliciousness of the meal is only a small glimpse of the behind-the-scenes efforts and attention Fred and his staff put into every bite. |
